Sri Parakala Matham was established in 2003 with a mission to propagate in the US the spiritual message of its parent institution, namely Brahmatantra Swatantra Parakala Mutt, situated in Mysore City, Karnataka, India. Its goals include:
1. To serve as a link between the disciples and devotees residing in the US on the one hand and the parent Organization in India on the other.
2. To bring together devotees and disciples of the Matham and celebrate functions and festivals of interest to the Matham in their homes and neighborhoods across the US.
3. To help in raising funds from volunteer donations to support the operation and projects of the parent Matham, as well as to participate in local community service to the extent possible.

The organization was relatively dormant for several years after its inception. However, during the recent years, its activities have increased primarily in the form of fund raising. These funds have helped the parent Organization to pursue educational projects (such as the construction and operation of a Junior college in the rural town of Melkote in Karnataka for the benefit of poor students coming from in and around the town). The funds have also been used to help partly support the maintenance of the parent Matham. Most recently, the funds have been used to pay for the construction of the Idol of Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva, the Presiding Diety of the Matham, and the Dolai (pedestal cum swing), that visited the US during September through November of 2011, to receive worship services at devotee’s homes in several cities. The “Dolai Tour” referred to above visited more than a dozen towns/metropolitan areas across the US during a eight-week period. A priest accompanying the Deity on the tour and performed the worship services. For details on the celebrations at the different cities see the link to Dolai Tour of US 2011.
